Thieves in the Night

Locks will stop the thieves in the night
From entering through the pearly gates
Into places where they don't belong
Searching for the unspeaking sculpture
Of the two headed lord of time

And so

No thieves came in the night
But the two headed lord of time vanished
Into thin air or made invisible
By someone cleverer than all the thieves
One day there now dissolved into nowhere

When I asked a few days before

The pretty lady with furtive eyes said
"The museum was closed for repairs"
For how long she could not say
But her knowing tone made me feel uneasy
"Oh.. I see.. closed for repairs."

No thieves came in the night
For there is a funny rule in this fair land
Stealing from the state is not a crime
If it is still a sin then one can confess
But there is no rule about restitution

And since mysteries are many in the world
The possibility that stone evaporates
At certain temperatures cannot be ruled out
So no one is to blame if something slipped
Between the past and the future tenses

Some say there is no time only movements
And exactly how human actions take place
Once someone sculpted out of sticky clay
One head looking back and the other forward
Neither saw thieves prowling in the night
