The Tambourine Man

Down down down to the memory lane
Where dreams are not failing
And the pint filled glasses are falling
Like swilled hopes down the drain
Making a case for some low brow blues

Hey suger that then was the whole life
Someone took the young student sailing
And some slow stranger was stalling
In the company of a future wife
While listing her vices and virtues

And when no man loved any woman
He had to deal with the wailing
Depth of feeling and the wobbling
Joust with an angry inner demon
To see how he must always choose

O, the kiss on the tender lips of time
In the cosmic system entailing
Everything that is just enthralling
Is now simply a common crime
Reported on the seven thirty news

The tambourine man blew the whistle
To the beat of his own drum
And every man minded no more, the boredom
But wait, the magic swirling ship,
Is it true, that it sank,
In the first week of its trip?
