Molinara
Molinara is an island
In the middle of a series of valleys
Green to a fault where babies were born
Yesterday, are born today and will be
Born again tomorrow.
Here is a nation inside a nation
Looking forward to being itself
In whichever nation it may be found
The mountain ranges will not alter
The permanence of its homeliness.
Those who left it long ago
Seeking green pastures or green monies
Come back older, maybe wiser
Due to their acquired foreign tongues
Which till the unchanging soul within.
"Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise for the singing, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day."
Here being smart counts for little.
No one lives this place by the mind.
As they leave the present behind
Things will move on, for their stockpile
Is not for sale to any market bidder.
For what they preserve is not gold.
It's the accent that sounds old
As if they have seen it all just by
Practising as they do all day and night
The art of simple goodwill.
