The edge of a diamond

Some things remind you of where you have been
Looking at the jewel bedecked shop window
The glinting of meaning in what you've seen
Marvels in what the gentle minds endow

It seems people would prefer not to say
How their fortunes have waxed and waned with time
A strange game of expectations they play
As if nothing changes when the bells chime

Symbols like words are representative
What would seem may in fact be or may not
But the worst is to seem to be furtive
When the tricks work the mind into a knot

About placing spacing and tracing a life
The playwright scribes its shape and breathing forms
Like thrusting shields in the path of a knife
Eyes will glance to and from in search of norms

What the female mind absorbs reads and knows
From measuring the edge of a diamond
Shoots into feeble male hearts like arrows
Hearts that would any day choose an almond
