Save Napoli

Looking at the recent Italian film "Gomorra", one got a fair idea about the diabolical nature of the inner workings of criminality in some parts of Italy. It touched on the issue of dumping toxic refuse but it didn't anticipate the breakdown of collecting everyday refuse from the city streets. What happens when the system breaks down and no one collects it for months on end?

After what seemed like an eternity, the new government finally sent the army to Napoli to try and remove the piles of rubbish from the streets.

What ales Napoli is in part also what ales Italy in general. The problems seem on the surface to be political, but in essence, there is a severe crisis of justice. By this I don't mean the functioning of the judicial system, I mean the deep seated injustices prevalent in the practises of everyday living, the existence of huge disparities between economic classes, the resignation of the Italian population to the way power is shared between oligarchical factions within the society. This all needs to change. By saving Napoli, Italy too might be saved.
