The Ride
Little Red Riding Hood is galloping away on a white horse. Where I saw this painting I can't recall but it caught my eye and I took a snap. The image above is a detail of a wider picture and the girl and the horse are headed for some houses on the right hand side. Someone once said that art doesn't have to be all that great for it to be appealing and it's true. Sometimes a work just grabs your imagination and it won't let go. So one wants to talk about it. This might be the beginning of art criticism but it's actually just a simple gesture of appreciation. If everything can be said with words, there'd be no need for any other forms of art than literature, but fortunately that's not the case and some thoughts are purely visual. There's something slightly ominous about girls on horses and white stallions are always striking. A lot has been said on the topic of horses in art so I won't go into it but why is she wearing a red cape? The fence marks the track and reminds of a stitching. The flowers have white petals and red stamens matching the girl and the horse. This painter has an approximative technique with regards to representation and he or she knows how to render sensations through the power of suggestion. |
