A Classical Building

The Corinthian Order sits above the Ionic and the canopy is held up by a mutated Tuscan. Conventions are established by precedence but there must be a deeper reason why the Corinthian must be placed above the Ionic. This building in its own simplified way echoes the classical canon as established on the tiered facade of the coliseum. The Prati area was developed intensively in the nineteenth century when the mood was neo-classical but the model this particulare building used is the Renaissance palazzo with its attention to detail around the windows and the use of pilasters, entablatures and the rusticating of the building base. All, which with a good stonemason and an experienced plasterer, things that can still be accomplished today given the will to turn a building project into an architectural one.
