A Case of You

I came across Diana Krall entirely by accident on the Internet. I suddenly found myself being entirely moved by her sparse rendition of the Joni Mitchell song, “A Case of You”. I remembered that I have always had the song in my own collection in the original version but somehow it never had the same impact. When researched further, this song turns out to be an ode to feminine desire, a longing to know the enigmatic persona of the masculine soul, which from time to time manifests as a type of untouchable male beauty in certain characters. I believe I have even known a few of these soulful types in my time.

That the song's best voice may be a jazz musician, such an excellent one at that as Diana Krall, only adds further to the artistic richness of the song. The love for music is in her blood and the words “holy wine” have a deeply touching resonance when pronounced with her Canadian accent and the simple chords played softly on her Steinway.
