Settori
1. L'architettura si divide in tre parti: costruzione, gnomonica, meccanica. La costruzione si divide a sua volta in due settori di cui uno è legato all'edificazione di mura e di pubblici edifici su suolo pubblico, l'altro alla realizzazione di edifici privati. Le opere pubbliche si suddividono inoltre in tre categorie: quelle destinate alla difesa, quelle riservate al culto e quelle di pubblica utilità. Appartiene al sistema di difesa l'erezione di mura, di torri e di porte atte a respingere in ogni momento gli assalti del nemico; all ambito religioso invece la fondazione di templi e di sedi sacre degli Dei immortali; mentre del terzo genere, di pubblica utilità, fanno parte i luoghi di lavoro e di ritrovo comuni, come le piazze, i portici, i bagni, le aree di passeggio e gli altri siti di pubblica appartenenza e con le medesime finalità.
2. Ma queste opere devono essere realizzare secondo criteri di solidità. di comodità e di bellezza. Il primo principio sarà rispettato se le fondamenta poggeranno in profondità, su strati solidi e se la scelta dei materiali sarà accurata, senza badare a spese; il secondo, o della funzionalità, allorché la distribuzione degli spazi (risponda) a un uso corretto e agevole e rispetti opportunamente l'esposizione cardinale in base alla funzione specifica dei locali. Il terzo infine, quello della bellezza, quando l'aspetto esteriore dell'opera sarà gradevole e raffinato, nel rispetto delle giuste proporzioni e della simmetria delle sue parti.

Construction itself divides into two sectors of which one is bound to the building of the wall and public buildings on public land, the other to the realisation of private buildings. Public Works sub-divides further into three categories: those for defence, those reserved for worship and those of public utility. 2. But these works must be realised according to the criterion of solidity, commodity and beauty. The first principle shall be respected if the footings bear deep on solid layers and the choice of materials shall be accurate, without concern for costs; the second, or of functionality when the distribution of spaces (responds) to the correct and suitable use and respect appropriately the cardinal orientation based on the specific use of the locales
